This photograph of a Correndera Pipit was taken near Port Stanley, Falkland Islands, as we hiked along the top end of Cape Pembroke on the morning of January 6, 2007. Temperatures were in the low 50's on this partly cloudy to rainy day. After this morning bird hike, we had lunch in Port Stanley at the Upland Goose and then headed to Mt. Pleasant airport for our departure to Santiago, Chile. The Correndera Pipit is a stocky bird with a moderately large bill, heavy streaking throughout its underparts (particularly on its flanks), and a very long hindclaw (hallux).
