During the afternoon of October 10, 2011, we birded the trails around our hotel, the Hotel Veraneio Hampel, in São Francisco de Paula. Temperatures were in the 80's on this partly cloudy day with intermittent rain. This female Amethyst Woodstar (Calliphlox amethystina) was perched near the feeders in the hotel's courtyard. The female has whitish underparts, green spots on the throat, a dark smear through the eye, tawny flanks, and a short tail.
