During the morning of October 10, 2011, we birded the escarpment at Colinhas do São Francisco near our hotel, the Hotel Veraneio Hampel, in São Francisco de Paula. The Araucaria Tit-Spinetail (Leptasthenura setaria) is perched in a "Paraná Pine" (Araucaria angustifolia) which is its main habitat. The bird gleans insects and spiders from the tree's needles. This Tit-Spinetail has a white-streaked black face and nape with this pattern extending down the side of the throat and upper breast. Its upperparts and long tail are a rufous-brown. Temperatures were in the 60's on this foggy morning with intermittent rain.
