After leaving Aparados da Serra National Park during the late afternoon on October 9, 2011, we birded a stretch of forest about 8-9 kilometers north of Cambará do Sul (a municipality in the state Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil). The Azure Jay (Cyanocorax caeruleus) was perched in a tree near the roadway. A black head and upper chest contrast with its blue plumage. Males and females are similar although females are usually smaller in size. Temperatures were in 80's on this partly cloudy, humid day.
