We drove the road to Tainhas, RS020, with major stops at kilometer 98.5 (Ponte Rio do Pinto) and kilometer 107 to do some morning birding on October 9, 2011. Our ultimate goal for this day was Itaimbezinho Canyon in Aparados da Serra National Park near Cambará do Sul (a municipality in the state of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil). We were stopped at Ponte Rio do Pinto when Brad shot a back view of a Black-and rufous Warbling-Finch (Poospiza nigrorufa). The bird has a long white supercilium, white whisker, rufous underparts, and dark grayish-brown upperparts. This photograph shows the bird's tipped in white tail feathers. Temperatures were in the 60's on this cool, partly cloudy morning.
