After leaving Bariqui Park in Curitiba on the afternoon of October 6, 2011, we had a late afternoon lunch. Post-lunch birding consisted of a trip to the Zoo-botanical Park in Curitiba to look for specialities (wild, not domesticated). We saw this Blackish Rail, Pardirallus nigricans, in a marshy field (same place that we saw Chestnut-capped Blackbirds) as we were leaving the zoo area. This is a big (almost 14 inches in length), dark rail with dark-brownish upperparts and blackish underparts Its legs and eyes are red. Its bill is olive-yellow in color. Temperatures were in the 80's on this sunny afternoon.
