After leaving Bariqui Park in Curitiba on the afternoon of October 6, 2011, we had a late afternoon lunch. Post-lunch birding consisted of a trip to the Zoo-botanical Park in Curitiba to look for specialities (wild, not domesticated). This is a photo of a Blue-chinned Sapphire (Chlorestes notatus). The bill is fairly straight, with a black upper mandible and reddish lower mandible. The male has mostly green plumage, darker above, with white thighs, a forked metallic blue tail and blue upper throat. The female differs from the male in that she has green-spotted white underparts. Temperatures were in the 80's on this sunny afternoon.
