During the morning of October 5, 2011, we birded the highlands (elevation: 3,000 feet) of the Serra da Graciosa, a southern extension of the Serra do Mar, a long system of mountain ranges and escarpments in Southeastern Brazil that parallels the coast of the Atlantic Ocean. Our base was in Curitiba, the capital of the Brazilian state of Paraná. Brad photographed this Brazilian Ruby, Clytolaema rubricauda , as it perched on a nearby twig. The bill of this Brazilian endemic is black and straight. Temperatures were in the 70's on this cloudy, overcast morning.
