Part I of our Brazilian odyssey began on October 2, 2011, when we traveled from Iguaçu Falls to Curitiba and headed south from there to Itapoã. We were doing some late afternoon birding near Garuva when we took this photograph of a male Brazilian Tanager. This species' silvery bill and red eye are distinguishing features that were not captured in this photo. Temperatures were in the mid-70's on this partly cloudy day.
