After a day of heavy birding at Reserva Volta Velha, we returned to Pousada Villa da Gloria for the night. Joanne injured her leg by having an accidental encounter with a bike rack in the middle of nowhere while on an early morning Pre-trip owling expedition. This photo shows the result of blood pooling due to a hematoma below the left knee. Ouch, pain and swelling...but thank goodness we brought walking sticks. She used hers for support throughout Part I and II of the remainder of the trip.
