Brad took this photograph of a Diademed Tanager (Stephanophorus diadematus) on one of the feeding trays in the courtyard of the Hotel Veraneio Hampel, in São Francisco de Paula, Rio Grande do Sul, on the afternoon of October 8, 2011. The Hampel's grounds offer hiking trails along with a lovely stand of araucaria forest. Temperatures were in the 80's on this partly cloudy to rainy day. The Diademed Tanager has a small red crest in front of a white crown. The body of the bird is a dark purplish blue. A black mask-like area surrounds the forehead, eyes, and chin.
