This is a photograph of Tarantula Hawk Wasp that Brad took while we were birding the escarpment at Colinhas do São Francisco during the morning of October 8, 2011. The Tarantula Hawk is a spider wasp which hunts tarantulas as food for its larvae. This wasp belongs to the Pompilidae family. Temperatures were in the 70's on this humid, partly cloudy morning.
