We spent the early part of the afternoon of October 9, 2011, at Aparados da Serra National Park. The park was created in 1959 and is located in the Serra Geral range of Rio Grande do Sul State in southern Brazil. This photo shows a Field Flicker (Colaptes campestris campestroides) that was near the picnic area where we had our lunch. Temperatures were in the 80's on this partly cloudy, humid day.
