This is a photo of a fern tree with its fronds unfolding that I took while we were birding the trails on the grounds of our hotel, the Hotel Veraneio Hampel, in São Francisco de Paula, Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil. The Hampel's grounds offer hiking trails along with a lovely stand of araucaria forest. Temperatures on this October 10, 2011, afternoon were in the 80's with partly cloudy skies.
