During the morning of October 10, 2011, we birded the escarpment at Colinhas do São Francisco near our hotel, the Hotel Veraneio Hampel, in São Francisco de Paula. The Red-rumped Warbling-Finch has been divided into two separate species. The more northern species is now known as the Buff-throated Warbling-Finch (Poospiza lateralis) while the more southern is now known as the Gray-throated Warbling-Finch (Poospiza cabanisi). This photograph shows a Gray-throated Warbling-Finch with its distinct white supercilium, brownish back, and gray throat and chest. Temperatures were in the 60's on this partly cloudy morning with intermittent rain and fog.
