On October 9, 2011, we drove the road to Tainhas, RS020, to do some morning birding. Our ultimate goal for this day was Itaimbezinho Canyon in Aparados da Serra National Park near Cambará do Sul (a municipality in the state of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil). We were standing on the Ponte Rio do Pinto when this Long-tailed Reed-Finch (Donacospiza albifrons) flew in to perch in a nearby tree. The bird's grayish upperparts look almost blue in this photo. Underparts are whitish with a buffy-colored tinge. The bird has a long white supercilium and a long tail. Temperatures were in the upper 60's on this cool, partly cloudy morning.
