We took a morning flight from Curitiba to Pôrto Alegre, an important shipping center in southern Brazil, on the morning of October 7, 2011. Our group had a late lunch at Schneider's Churrascaria in Pôrto Alegre. Then we drove to our hotel, the Hotel Veraneio Hampel, in Săo Francisco de Paula, Rio Grande do Sul, where we did some late afternoon birding. The Planalto Tyrannulet, Phyllomyias fasciatus, was one of the birds that we photographed on the hotel grounds. This bird has a short-stubby black bill, a white supercilium, grayish-yellow underparts, two grayish-yellow-tinged wingbars, and a white throat. Its crown is grayer than its mantle. Temperatures were in the 80's on this sunny day.
