After lunch in Morretes, a small historic city on the coast of the Brazilian state of Paraná, we drove to Superagüi National Park. This park is located on the northern shore of Paraná State in southern Brazil and contains the Serra do Mar Costal Forests and the Ilha Grande Mangroves. Superagüi is part of the largest continuous stretch of intact Atlantic Rainforest. We went here late in the afternoon on October 5, 2011, to see the Red-tailed Amazon Parrot (Amazona brasiliensis). We took a motorboat to a near shore island where large numbers of this endangered Brazilian endemic come to roost each evening. Brad took this photograph of a Red-tailed Parrot perched on its roost from our boat (we stayed offshore). Temperatures were in the low 70's.
