Anytime we get a look at a Tinamou, it's a real treat. On the morning of October 9, 2011, we were driving the road to Tainhas, RS020, to do some morning birding. Our ultimate goal for this day was Itaimbezinho Canyon in Aparados da Serra National Park near Cambará do Sul (a municipality in the state of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil). Our group was birding along the roadway when a pair of Red-winged Tinamou (Rhynchotus rufescens) on nest was seen in the distance. Scope views were OK. This photograph gives you the GISS (General Impression of Size and Shape) of the bird. Temperatures were in the upper 60's on this cool, partly cloudy morning.
