During the afternoon of October 10, 2011, we birded the trails around our hotel, the Hotel Veraneio Hampel, in São Francisco de Paula. Temperatures were in the 80's on this partly cloudy day with intermittent rain. This Rough-legged Tyrannulet (Phyllomyias burmeisteri) was perched near the feeders in the hotel's courtyard. Its bill is thick and short with the base of its lower mandible pale. The crown is a slightly duller olive than the back. The underparts are a yellow-olive color, and two faint olive-yellow wing bars can be seen in this photograph.
