We took a morning flight from Curitiba to Pôrto Alegre, an important shipping center in southern Brazil, on the morning of October 7, 2011. Our group had a late lunch at Schneider's Churrascaria in Pôrto Alegre. Then we drove to our hotel, the Hotel Veraneio Hampel, in São Francisco de Paula, Rio Grande do Sul, where we did some late afternoon birding on the hotel grounds. The Rufous-bellied Thrush (Turdus rufiventris) was one of the birds that we photographed. This thrush has a rufous-colored belly, a narrow eye ring, and brownish streaking on its white throat. Temperatures were in the 80's on this sunny day.
