Brad took this photograph of a Sayaca Tanager (Thraupis sayaca) on one of the feeding trays in the courtyard of the Hotel Veraneio Hampel, in São Francisco de Paula, Rio Grande do Sul, on the afternoon of October 8, 2011. The Hampel's 52 acres offer hiking trails along with a lovely stand of araucaria forest. Temperatures were in the 80's on this partly cloudy to rainy day. The Sayaca Tanager is grayish blue in color with greenish-blue flight feathers. The Blue-Gray, Sayaca, and Azure-shouldered Tanagers are all very similar. Range and voice can be used to distinguish them. Typically, the Blue-gray has a white shoulder, while the Azure-shouldered's is a deep blue color.
