Brad took this photograph of a Sharp-shinned (Rufous-thighed) Hawk, Accipiter striatus erythronemius, while we were birding the escarpment at Colinhas do São Francisco during the morning of October 8, 2011. This subspecies is widespread in eastern South America including eastern and southern Brazil. The Rufous-thighed Hawk has solid-colored rufous flanks. Temperatures were in the 70's on this humid, overcast morning.
