We drove the road to Tainhas, RS020, with major stops at kilometer 98.5 (Ponte Rio do Pinto) and kilometer 107 to do some morning birding on October 9, 2011. Our ultimate goal for this day was Itaimbezinho Canyon in Aparados da Serra National Park near Cambará do Sul (a municipality in the state of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil). We were stopped at Ponte Rio do Pinto when Brad photographed this pair of Straight-billed Reedhaunter (Limnoctites rectirostris). This species has a long, straight bill. The crown is gray-tinged, upperparts are a grayish-brown color, and underparts are white with buff-colored flanks. Other characteristics include a white supercilium, yellow iris, and rufous-brown tail and wings. Temperatures were in the 60's on this cool, partly cloudy morning.
