We drove the road to Tainhas, RS020, with major stops at kilometer 98.5 (Ponte Rio do Pinto) and kilometer 107 to do some morning birding on October 9, 2011. Our ultimate goal for this day was Itaimbezinho Canyon in Aparados da Serra National Park near Cambará do Sul (a municipality in the state of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil). Brad photographed this Striolated Tit-Spinetail (Leptasthenura striolata) in mid-song at our first stop (Ponte Rio do Pinto). A Brazilian endemic, the Striolated Tit-Spinetail has a streaked mantle, black bill, long pointed tail feathers, and a whitish supercilium. Temperatures were in the 60's on this cool, partly cloudy morning.
