We took this photograph of a Three-striped Flycatcher during the morning of October 4, 2011, while hiking the main trail at Reserva Volta Vehla. This flycatcher has a yellow throat and lacks a coronal patch. It is smaller than the Yellow-throated Flycatcher and has more color contrast between its wings and mantle. Temperatures were in the low 80's on this cloudy, overcast day. The Volta Velha Reserve is a popular birding spot in southern Brazil and is well-known among birders around the world. It is located in Itapoã on the northern coast of Santa Catarina state. The reserve encompasses about 2,300 acres within one of the largest areas of undisturbed Atlantic Forest (lowland rainforest on the coastal plain of Brazil) and is one of the most endangered biomes on earth.
