During the morning of October 10, 2011, we birded the escarpment at Colinhas do São Francisco near our hotel, the Hotel Veraneio Hampel, in São Francisco de Paula. This is a photo of a Variable Antshrike (Thamnophilus caerulescens) showing a black bill and cap with gray upperparts and underparts. The bird's flanks are a buffy-yellow color. Temperatures were in the 60's on this partly cloudy morning with intermittent rain and fog.
