After lunch at our hotel, the Hotel Veraneio Hampel, in São Francisco de Paula, on October 10, 2011, Brad and I decided to sit on the upper story porch located outside the dining area. We enjoyed watching the hummingbirds, caciques, and tanagers at the feeders and in the nearby trees. The Hampel's grounds consist of 52 acres that offer hiking trails along with a lovely stand of araucaria forest. Temperatures were in the 80's on this partly cloudy day with intermittent rain. The Violet-capped Woodnymph (Thalurania glaucopis) has a violet cap and brilliant bluish-tinged emerald green underparts. This photo shows the bird's dark bluish tail and emerald green upperparts.
