Brad took this photograph of a White- or Yellow-browed Woodpecker while we were birding the escarpment at Colinhas do São Francisco near the Hotel Veraneio Hampel, in São Francisco de Paula, Rio Grande do Sul, on the morning of October 8, 2011. This colorful woodpecker has a red crown and a whitish-yellow supercilium followed by a dark band through the eyes. Below this dark band is a yellowish-white stripe that extends from the lores to the side of the neck. A red malar stripe is below this. The throat is yellow, upperparts are olive, and underparts are white with brownish horizontal stripes. Temperatures were in the upper 60's on this humid, overcast morning.
