We took this photograph of a White-rumped Swallow during the morning of October 4, 2011, at Reserva Volta Vehla. We were birding near the main clearing while waiting for the weather to improve. The White-rumped Swallow has white underparts and is glossy blue above. It has a white eyebrow which is difficult to see and not visible in this photograph. Temperatures were in the low 70's on this cloudy, overcast morning. The Volta Velha Reserve is a popular birding spot in southern Brazil and is well-known among birders around the world. It is located in Itapoã on the northern coast of Santa Catarina state. The reserve encompasses about 2,300 acres within one of the largest areas of undisturbed Atlantic Forest (lowland rainforest on the coastal plain of Brazil) and is one of the most endangered biomes on earth.
