After lunch at the Hotel Veraneio Hampel, in São Francisco de Paula, Rio Grande do Sul, on October 8, 2011, we had an extended siesta due to rain. Brad and I decided to sit on the upper story porch located outside the dining area and watch the hummingbirds, caciques, and tanagers at the feeders and in the nearby trees. The Hampel's grounds consist of 52 acres that offer hiking trails along with a lovely stand of araucaria forest. Temperatures were in the 80's on this partly cloudy to rainy day. The White-throated Hummingbird (Leucochloris albicollis) has a white throat, belly, and tail corners. Note the bird's tongue in this photograph.
