After lunch at the Hotel Veraneio Hampel, in São Francisco de Paula, Rio Grande do Sul, on October 8, 2011, we had an extended siesta due to rain. Brad and I decided to sit on the upper story porch located outside the dining area and watch the hummingbirds, caciques, and tanagers at the feeders and in the nearby trees. The White-throated Hummingbird (Leucochloris albicollis) has a white throat, belly, and tail corners. The lower part of the black bill is a reddish color. The Hampel's grounds consist of 52 acres that offer hiking trails along with a lovely stand of araucaria forest. Temperatures were in the 80's on this partly cloudy to rainy day.
