After leaving Aparados da Serra National Park during the late afternoon on October 9, 2011, we birded a stretch of forest about 8-9 kilometers north of Cambará do Sul (a municipality in the state Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil). This is a photograph of a Yellow-billed Pintail (Anas georgica) preening its feathers and showing its dark blue speculum surrounded on each side by a white band. The bird's dark brown crownline is also clearly visible. Temperatures were in 80's on this partly cloudy, humid day.
