We drove the road to Canela, RS235, along a 10 kilometer stretch with major stops at kilometer 68 and 65 to do some afternoon birding on October 8, 2011. Lunchtime rains, which had kept us indoors at our hotel, the Hotel Veraneio Hampel, in São Francisco de Paula, Rio Grande do Sul, finally cleared. Brad photographed this Yellow-rumped Marshbird (Pseudoleistes guirahuro) in a nearby field. This dark brown bird has a yellow shoulder, flanks, and rump. Temperatures were in the 80's on this partly cloudy to rainy day.
