We were birding the Agulhas Negras Road in Itatiaia National Park on October 19, 2011, when Brad photographed this Bay-chested Warbling-Finch, Poospiza thoracica, feeding in a nearby tree. This Brazilian endemic has gray upperparts. Underparts are a whitish-gray color with deep chestnut-colored flanks and upper breast area. A small black mask can be seen on this individual. Temperatures were in the 40's on this partly cloudy morning. Itatiaia National Park is situated on the shoulders of the Serra Mantiqueria, a range of mountains that straddles the states of São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro.
