We photographed this Black-legged Dacnis (Dacnis nigripes), a Brazilian endemic, while walking along the road below Pousada Pica Pau at Intervales State Park on October 13, 2011. The turquoise colored male, with its black mask, throat, and mantle, is shown here. The legs and feet are a dusky color. The bill is dark. Compared to the Blue Dacnis, the Black-legged has more solid blue color in its wings. Temperatures on this cloudy morning with intermittent rain were in the 60's. Intervales State Park is located on a 3,300 foot high escarpment in the State of São Paulo in the Paranapiacaba mountain range/upper Ribeira Valley, southwest of the city of São Paulo and north of Curitiba.
