We were birding the Agulhas Negras Road in Itatiaia National Park on October 19, 2011, when Brad photographed this Blue-billed Black-Tyrant, Knipolegus cyanirostris, perched in a nearby tree. The female shown here has two whitish wing-bars and brownish-gray upperparts. The crown and rump are rufous-colored. Underparts are whitish with heavy brownish streaking. The iris is red. Temperatures were in the 40's on this partly cloudy morning. Itatiaia National Park is situated on the shoulders of the Serra Mantiqueria, a range of mountains that straddles the states of São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro.
