We were birding the Agulhas Negras Road in Itatiaia National Park on October 19, 2011, when Brad photographed this Blue-billed Black-Tyrant, Knipolegus cyanirostris, perched in a nearby tree. The female shown here has two whitish wing-bars and brownish-gray upperparts. The crown and rump are rufous-colored. Underparts are whitish with heavy brownish streaking. The iris is red. The amount of light and the light source can change the color of a bird in a photograph. Temperatures were in the 40's on this partly cloudy morning. Itatiaia National Park is situated on the shoulders of the Serra Mantiqueria, a range of mountains that straddles the states of São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro.
