We photographed this Blue Dacnis (Dacnis cayana) on October 13, 2011, from the covered porch of Pousada Pica Pau at Intervales State Park. The turquoise colored male, with its black mask, throat, and mantle, is shown here. The legs and feet are pink. Temperatures on this cloudy morning with intermittent rain were in the 60's. Intervales State Park is located on a 3,300 foot high escarpment in the State of São Paulo in the Paranapiacaba mountain range/upper Ribeira Valley, southwest of the city of São Paulo and north of Curitiba.
