We were birding the Agulhas Negras Road in Itatiaia National Park on October 19, 2011, when Brad photographed this Brassy-breasted Tanager, Tangara desmaresti. This Brazilian endemic is a very colorful bird with its black and turquoise blue facial area, brassy-colored breast and emerald green flanks. Temperatures were in the 50's on this partly cloudy morning. Itatiaia National Park is situated on the shoulders of the Serra Mantiqueria, a range of mountains that straddles the states of São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro.
