Brad photographed this Brazilian Ruby (Clytolaema rubricauda), a Brazilian endemic, late in the afternoon on October 18, 2011, in Itatiaia National Park. There were many Rubies flying around and feeding at the hanging feeders located on the rear balcony off the restaurant of our hotel, the Hotel do Ype. This male is green with shades varying from an iridescent emerald color (above the straight, black bill) to a dull blackish-green on the belly. A white post-ocular spot and pinkish throat are visible. Temperatures were in the 60's on this overcast evening.
