Brad photographed this male Brazilian Ruby (Clytolaema rubricauda) on October 20, 2011, as it perched on the rear balcony of the Hotel do Ype's restaurant. This Brazilian endemic is green with shades varying from an iridescent emerald color (above the straight, black bill) to a dull blackish-green on the belly. A white post-ocular spot and the deep ruby-colored throat are visible. The rufous tail can also be seen. Temperatures were in the 70's on this partly cloudy afternoon.
