This male Brazilian Ruby (Clytolaema rubricauda) was perched near the rear balcony off the Hotel do Ype's restaurant in Itatiaia National Park on October 20, 2011. This Brazilian endemic is green with shades varying from an iridescent emerald color (above the straight, black bill) to a dull blackish-green on the belly. A white post-ocular spot and the deep ruby-colored throat are visible. The tail is a bronzy-rufous color. Temperatures were in the 70's on this partly cloudy afternoon.
