We spent the remainder of the afternoon and early evening of October 20, 2011, birding pasture lands below Itatiaia National Park. The Burnished-buff Tanager (Tangara cayana) was another bird that we saw perched in the nearby trees. This photo shows a side view of a member of the flava group found in eastern and southern Brazil. It has a broad swath of black running down its midline from just above its eyes to its lower belly. Upperparts and the rest of the underparts are a burnished-buff color. Wings are bluish. Temperatures were in the 60's on this partly cloudy day.
