We birded the wetlands loop at REGUA (Reserva Ecológica de Guapiaçu) during the early morning of October 23, 2011. The male Chestnut-backed Antshrike, Thamnophilus palliatus, has a black crown and a chestnut-colored back and tail. Underparts are barred black and white. Both sexes have a pale iris. Temperatures were in the low 70's on this partly cloudy morning.
