After a four hour drive during the afternoon of October 18, 2011, we arrived at a marshy area below Itatiaia National Park where we did some late afternoon birding. We photographed this Chestnut-capped Blackbird, Chrysomus ruficapillus, as it perched on a reed. The male is all-black in color with a deep chestnut-brown colored cap, throat, and breast. A black swath of color extends below the dark eye from the bill to the nape. Temperatures were in the 70's on this partly cloudy day.
