Brad photographed this Chestnut-crowned Becard (Pachyramphus castaneus ) during a visit to the rainforest at Fazenda Angelim on October 16, 2011. This area is located in a valley near the Serra do Mar mountain range. Males and females are alike and have cinnamon-rufous colored upperparts with a darker colored crown. A gray band extends from the eye to the nape. Underparts are a pale cinnamon-buff color. Temperatures were in the 60's on this cloudy morning with intermittent rain.
