We spent the remainder of the afternoon and early evening of October 20, 2011, birding pasture lands below Itatiaia National Park. Brad photographed this Curl-crested Jay (Cyanocorax cristatellus) as it perched in a nearby tree. The head is a dark brownish-black color. Upperparts are blue, and underparts and lower portion of the tail are white. A distinctive recurved crest that tops the forecrown is not visible here (it was blown over by the wind). Temperatures were in the 60's on this partly cloudy day.
