We were looking for the Helmeted Woodpecker (unsuccessfully) along the Estrada de Carmo trail while birding in Intervales State Park in Brazil on October 14, 2011. It was pouring rain, and the most exciting thing that we saw was this gigantic earthworm (Fimoscolex, species undefined) as we slogged along the road. Our guide, Kevin, picked it up to display it to the group. His hands were thoroughly slimed. Temperatures were in the low to mid-60's. Intervales State Park is located on a 3,300 foot high escarpment in the State of São Paulo in the Paranapiacaba mountain range/upper Ribeira Valley, southwest of the city of São Paulo and north of Curitiba.
