After a busy day of birding on October 23, 2011, and our successful hunt for the Three-toed Jacamar (near Sumidouro), we drove back to REGUA (Reserva Ecológica de Guapiaçu). Our route took us through Teresópolis and the Serra das Órgãos National Park located in the state of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The Serra dos Órgãos ("Range of the Organs") is a mountain range that was turned into a national park in 1939 to protect native forest and the abundant number of fresh water springs of the area. Brad photographed God's Finger Rock (Dedo de Deus) which is the best known of the rock formations in the park. This formation is 5, 551 feet high and is pictured in the background of the flag of the state of Rio de Janeiro. Temperatures were in the upper 60's on this partly cloudy afternoon.
